Linux on my Computers

This is documentation on how I accomplished various configuration in Linux. Feel free to tell me what you think of all this, especially if I say something dumb, describe a poor way of accomplishing something, or anything else. I do not claim to be a Linux expert, I am just documenting what has worked for me.

Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake)

I installed Ubuntu during July of 2006. While I've found many little things that I do not like in Ubuntu, the overall OS is much more refined and basic-user-oriented than any previous linux distribution I have tried. Thus, I'm working with it and documenting my setup along the way. Not all topics have associated documents yet, but I hope to get them up soon:

Fedora Core 4

I installed Fedora Core 4 in 2005, hoping to get back into using linux. I found various things that I did not like in Fedora Core 4 and managed to make my system unstable while trying to get various programs working following directions found online. On the whole, I was not impressed. I installed Debian for a short time after this, but I found Debian much too "manual" for my liking...I prefer an OS that will do many tasks that I consider basic straight out of the box. I wrote the following page while using Fedora Core 4, though:

Red Hat 7, Red Hat 8

These are old "notes" documents that I created while using several Red Hat 7.x versions and Red Hat version 8. I used these for personal reference in the past. Most were created before 2003 and thus quite possbily do not pertain to newer versions of linux distributions.
